The program of the Olympic games since 1896 (except in 1900, 1908, 1912). The program of the competitions and weight categories athletes are constantly changing. Before the creation of the International Federation of lifters athletes competed in the snatch and clean and jerk two hands, sometimes - in snatch and clean and jerk of one hand;

since 1920 - in the triathlon (the snatch and the clean and jerk one hand, the clean and jerk the two hands),

Exercises

The snatch - it is an exercise in which the athlete performs lifting above the head one merging traffic directly from the platform on a fully straightened hands, at the same time sitting down under it. Then, while holding down the bar above his head, the athlete rises, fully straighten his legs.

The clean and jerk - this exercise consists of two separate movements. During the seizure of the chest athlete lifts the bar from the dais, elevates it to the chest, at the same time sitting down, and then rises. Then he sits down and sharp movement sends the bar up on the direct hand, at the same time sitting down under her, spreading her legs a little to the side or forward-backward («scissors»). After fixing the position of the rod over the head of the athlete straightens his legs, putting the foot on the same level (in parallel)while the bar above my head.

Press (more precisely, the bench bar standing) - this exercise is to capture from the dais rods on his chest and pressing it over her head at the expense of some only of muscles in the arms. This exercise was removed from the program of competition in connection with the fact that many athletes began to do instead of him bad press - pushing rods chest and all of the body with the help of muscles of the legs (the use of sitting down). As a result of the muscles of the arms almost did not participate in this work. The difference between «honest regime» and the trick of the judges see it was very difficult. In the end, those athletes, who are still did the «honest bench», found themselves at a disadvantage. In addition, the bench was very traumatic, many of the injured of the lumbosacral spine. Proceeding from all this, press was excluded from the program of the competition, although there is still an effective force exercise and is still used in the training weightlifters.
